ANTI RAGGING POLICY
The UGC Regulation on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Institutions, 2009, unequivocally delineates acts constituting ragging, underscoring the imperative to foster an environment of respect and safety for all students:
- The regulation condemns any form of verbal or physical harassment aimed at demeaning or mistreating fellow students, especially freshers. Such behavior not only undermines the dignity of individuals but also creates an atmosphere antithetical to learning.
- Engaging in rowdy or undisciplined activities that cause annoyance, distress, or fear among students, particularly freshers, is strictly prohibited. The regulation emphasizes the importance of maintaining a conducive environment for academic pursuits, free from intimidation or disruption.
- Coercing students into performing acts that induce shame, embarrassment, or torment is deemed reprehensible. Such actions can inflict lasting emotional harm and undermine the well-being of victims.
- Disruption of academic activities by senior students is condemned. Every student has the right to pursue education without interference or intimidation from others.
- Exploiting freshers or other students for personal gain, whether academically or financially, is strictly forbidden. The regulation underscores the importance of fostering a culture of collaboration and mutual support within the academic community.
- Resorting to financial extortion or imposing undue financial burdens on students is deemed a grave offense. All students should have equal access to education without facing coercion or exploitation.
- Any form of physical abuse, including sexual abuse, assault, or coercion, is abhorrent and illegal. The regulation prioritizes the safety and well-being of every individual within the academic setting.
- Deriving pleasure from causing distress or discomfort to others, whether through words, actions, or online means, is morally reprehensible. Such behavior reflects a lack of empathy and respect for fellow students.
- Lastly, the regulation unequivocally condemns discrimination or abuse based on characteristics such as race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic status. It emphasizes the importance of celebrating and respecting diversity within the academic community.
In summary, the UGC Regulation seeks to create a safe and inclusive environment where all students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. It calls upon every member of the academic community to uphold these principles and actively combat any form of ragging or harassment.
